Teams of four from the 6 world powers in Informatics – Romania, Poland, Russia and Bulgaria, arrive in Shumen for the “9th International Autumn Tournament in Informatics”, which will be held from the 22nd to 26th of November. Shumen will welcome over 170 contestants, including teams from Ukraine, Serbia, Macedonia, Moldova and Greece.
This was announced today by Biserka Yovcheva, chairman of the organizing committee by Biserka Yovcheva, chairman of the organizing committee, at a press conference, which was also attended by Vladislav Kiprov, CEO of “Liftkom” AD – General Sponsor of the event, and representatives of the organizers and partners – Assoc. Prof. Katya Lyutskanova – Vice-Dean of Educational Affairs and Assoc. Prof. DSc. Theodosi Theodosiev from “Konstantin Preslavsky” University of Shumen, Viliola Lyubenova – Vice-Principal of Math and Natural Sciences High School “Nancho Popovich”, Galya Mladenova, Principal of Vocational School of Mechanics, Electronics, Telecommunicaiton and Transport “Hristo Botev”, as well as representatives of Shumen Municipality and Private School A&B.
“This year, the International Autumn Tournament in Informatics is held with a strong international interest, as a response to the First European Junior Olympiad held in Sofia in September. The best world powers will be here, only USA and China are missing”, Yovcheva said. She specified that 24 teams from 8 countries declared participation so far, such as Russia, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, and they will be represented not only by their National teams but by other representative teams. Shumen will have its own home teams.
Yovcheva noted that this International tournament, that is conducted in two age groups – junior – for students up to 15.5 years old and senior – for senior high school students, is one of a kind.
There are two Shumen citizens in the National teams – Ivan Ganev, in the Second Bulgarian Senior Team, and Marin Yordanov, in the Second Bulgarian Junior Team. All Shumen students have been preparing at Private School A&B and all of them are students at Math and Natural Sciences High School “Nancho Popovich” with the exception of Ivailo Georgiev, who is a student at Secondary school “Sava Dobroplodni”.
Biserka Yovcheva poined out that this year’s Autumn tournament, hosted by Shumen Municipality and held under the patronage of the Mayor Lyubomir Hristov, is supported by the Shumen business and expressed her gratitude to him and the General Sponsor of the event – “Liftcom” AD. The CEO Vladislav Kiprov said, that his desire is by popularization of the city to enable young people to study, develop and stay here with their innovative ideas and with the opportunity to further develop modern technologies, so that Shumen can become an intelectual city.
Partners of the event are Ministry of Education, European Junior Olympiad in Informatics, Regional Education Management, Musala-Soft, Association of the Olympic Science Teams.
We recall that the International Autumn Tournament in Informatics (IATI) was held for the first time in 2009 on the initiative of Biserka Yovcheva and Emil Kelevedzhiev – chairman of the National Commission of Informatics of MES (Ministry of Education and Science).
